James Cameron’s Avatar refuses to get trumped.
The sci-fi film that’s been leaving other recently released movies blue in the face, conquered the worldwide box office gross and became the iceberg to Cameron’s other blockbuster hit, Titantic.
For the seventh week in a row, Avatar which stars Sam Worthington and Avon’s newest face, Zoe Saldana, remained at #1 with a solid $30M.
Mel Gibson, who starred in one of the weekend’s newcomers, Edge of Darkness, was once a guaranteed box office smasher but because of his questionable behavior and out of line comments over the last few years takes second place with $17.1M.
Kristen Bell and Josh Duhamel star in romantic comedy, While In Rome and in its opening weekend pulled a smidget over $12M.
Dwayne Johnson in an attempt to win over a kid-friendly audience in Tooth Fairy maintained his position at #4 with $10M and Denzel Washington’s The Book of Eli rounded out the top five with $8.7M.
