LexiB Movie Picks: February 2010

bradley-cooper-julia-roberts-valentines-dayIs it February already?

With promises that blockbuster season is starting a little early this year, the month of amour contains the opening weekend for several potential cult classics.

Avatar, you had a good run but I’m positive that your reign at #1 will be ending very soon with the release of these hot flicks.

Here are LexiB’s movie picks for February:

February 5

Dear John
Along the lines of The Notebook, Channing Tatum shows off his dramatic acting chops (and thankfully some abs) as a soldier who kindles a romance with a college student but after the tragedy of 9/11 must relist in the military but keep the long-distance relationship going strong through letters.

From Paris With Love
John Travolta resurfaces on the scene after a dismal remake of The Pelham 1 2 3 with this action thriller as a spy on the hunt for a terrorist. The goatee is not a bad look either.

February 12

The Wolfman
A remake yes but with the advancement of technology and the star power of Sir Anthony Hopkins and Benicio Del Toro, this makes for uncanny blockbuster material.

Valentine’s Day
Who’s in the movie? A better question would be who’s not in the movie. The film which features Hollywood’s elite such as Julia Roberts, Bradley Cooper, Jennifer Aniston, Jessica Biel, Jessica Alba, Ashton Kutcher, Queen Latifah, Jamie Foxx and many, many more find their characters’ lives intertwined on the most commercial holiday of the year. I like to think of it as Crash meets Cupid.

February 19

Shutter Island
Will Leonardo DiCaprio capture the Oscar this time with his directorial partner, Martin Scorsese? Probably not but it won’t stop the momentum of this psychotic thriller that has the Titantic star searching for an escaped mental patient.

Which movie will you be checking out in February?
