Nearly 107 million viewers witnessed history on February 7 as the incomparable New Orleans Saints, after years of suffering a devastating blow to their city, rightfully and respectably became the Super Bowl 44 Champions.
Arguably, the Saints’ heavenly win symbolized the ongoing struggle of the city to regain stability but through hard work and perseverance to come out on top in the end. For many around the world who watched the Super Bowl and realized what New Orleans went through post Hurricane Katrina realize that their win was much bigger and deeper than the game itself.
And for Thais Mills, it was a moment that she will cherish for years to come.
Curator of LipServiceInk.com and EnticingObjects.com, the dot-com maven who had to relocate to Houston, TX to escape the harsh reality to come from the category five hurricane was beyond words when the New Orleans Saints won the Super Bowl, therefore, leaving their stamp on NFL history.
She recants on how she felt when the Saints won.
It put me at a daze. The world saw us at our worst 4 years ago for Katrina and now we’re seen at our best. I cried touching the TV screen.
When asked what does this win mean to New Orleans, she stated that it says that the city is “open for business globally” and “like Essence, events and more people will be happy to travel to New Orleans.”
Mardi Gras, internationally known as one of the most colorful and well known celebrations, which will be held February 16 this year, will undoubtedly be the largest that the city has ever seen.Black and gold Mardi Gras beads anyone?
Mills, who frequents “The Big Easy” as often as she can since making Houston her home, announced on Twitter that she intends on attending the festivities this year.
The best thing about Mardi Gras is that you are going to a party that the world is invited to. You drink, dance in the street and it’s legal.
The webpreneur disclosed that the first thing she will do however, when she returns to Louisana will be to “hug my mom, sister, niece and all 3 of my dogs: Rome, Chynah and Paris.”
Thais Mills, but affectionately known throughout New Orleans, Houston and the web world as Thai, established LipServiceInk.com in 2005 as a means to keep in contact with the family members and friends she was separated from because of the storm.
Shortly afterwards, she met her other love, EnticingObjects.com which for her was her admiration for art and bringing it to formation.
An online boutique consisting of Office Art, Craft Magnets, Photo Clips and The Little Canvas Collections, EnticingObjects.com single-handingly surges her creative passion into each signature piece, which all have found homes all across the globe.
Besides donating to various charities throughout the year, according to her site, she is currently planning the launch of Bookmark Talk LIVE (Summer ’10). The anticipated event is described as “a cutting edge open-mic event where a bookmark is your ticket and all you’re asked to bring is an open mind.”
Never one to forget where she comes from, Thais is eager to bring her innovative Bookmark Talk LIVE to New Orleans during the 2010 Holiday season to celebrate the kick-off of her charity organization which will host book drives twice a year to assist in re-stocking the elementary and high school libraries in her hometown.
As we drew close to end of our interview, I asked her a question that I personally believe what solidifies what New Orleans means to her and vice versa.
Both are a release of my first loves, Art & Literacy. Both so potent they need their own domains to grow.
I couldn’t agree with you more.
Thanks Lexi, I lub your dot com.
